Cowrie shells have been used as adornaments by ancient cultures and tribes through many millennia. They hold important cultural meanings and playied a significant role in traditional ceremonies among native tribes, where they were symbol of wealth and used to be worn as a talisman, for example as a cowrie shell necklace. In ancient Africa, China and India, cowrie shells were also used as a currency. These shells are still used with the same ancint purposes by the most remote uncontacted tribes of the Earth! On a spiritual level, cowries were also thought to bring good fortune and protection against negative energies, while also attracting prosperity, fertility, and abundance. I created this cowrie shell necklace design by taking inspiration from the ancient tribal jewelry, I only use natural materials: real large cowrie shells, natural wooden beads and indigo waxed cotton cord. Ten shells are used for each necklace and the length is adjustable from a maximum of 65cm to a minimum of 35cm. I like to design my jewelry for those who want to reconnect with nature.
